General Description: Reporting to the Senior Director of Residence Life and Orientation, the Associate Director of Residence Life provides senior level leadership to the areas of training, staff selection, supervision, staff development, programming, and assessment of student learning for Residence Life and New Student Orientation. The Associate Director will directly supervise up to 7 Residence Directors, and indirectly supervise the Resident Assistant program in 13 residential facilities on the Queens and Staten Island campuses and the Orientation Leader program on the Queens campus. The Associate Director advances the Catholic and Vincentian mission of the University through an engaging residential programming model and new student orientation program that maximizes University resources and the metropolitan area. The Associate Director works collaboratively with the Student Affairs team and other university departments in supporting an inclusive, respectful and welcoming residential environment and in the development of a comprehensive and engaging new student orientation program. He/she will serve as a liaison to students, parents, and alumni and represent the department's interests on various University committees as assigned. Responsibilities: Staff Supervision Supervises, trains and evaluates 7 professional Residence Directors Indirectly supervises Resident Assistant Program (80 RAs), and Orientation Leaders (60 OLs) Provides general supervision of the Resident Assistant Advisory Board Collaborates with the Office of Student Conduct to support timely resolution of infractions processed by Resident Directors and strategic programming interventions Maintains staff employment files according to University guidelines Holds staff accountable to department goals, strategic initiatives, and collateral assignments Staff Development Supervises and manages the advertising, interview and selection processes for Residence Director, Graduate Assistant, Resident Assistant, and Orientation Leader staff. Responsible for in-depth staff training and development, performance evaluations, maintaining staff training/procedure manuals and ongoing in-service programs. Oversees RA Leadership Class and collaborates with Assistant Director of Student Development on orientation leader class and training initiatives. Coordinate assessment of training program and staff competencies, Programming Serves as or designates advisor for the Resident Student Association. Coordinates partnerships with tutors, faculty, and University support services that contribute to student success, as well as marketing and assessment efforts. Develops learning outcomes and assessment procedures for resident student activities and programs. Routinely monitors and records student participation, student satisfaction and student learning resulting from programs. In collaboration with Residence Directors, Resident Assistants and faculty members, develops, promotes and implements a comprehensive array of educational, cultural, social and recreational programs to enhance the living-learning environment of resident students while advancing the Catholic and Vincentian mission of the University. Partners with Provost's Office on themed communities, including International House and connections with four faculty-in-residence. Oversees office traditional programming, including Battle of the Buildings, Tunnel of Oppression, and Discover Queens. Builds coalitions with other University areas: Student Engagement, Campus Ministry, Career Center, Center for Counseling and Consultation, University Freshman Center, Student Health Center, VISA, Global Studies, Alumni & Donor Relations, Public Safety, Student Development, etc. to develop shared programs and initiatives ensuring a seamless and cohesive living-learning environment. Works with team to develop and implement a comprehensive calendar of events each fall/spring and content manager on publicity. Oversees budgets for Programming, Training, Selection, and Hall Councils. Maintains records on all approved programs and evaluations. Participates in the New Student Orientation program planning and delivery in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Student Development. General Duties Updates departmental information on the departmental website in collaboration with the web content manager Develops and updates Residence Life publications in collaboration with colleagues and Marketing & Communications staff Participates in central office staff duty rotation Participate in Housing Selection Process Participates in New Student Orientation Program Provides back up coverage for Residence Director staff Participates in Student Concerns Committee Participates in move in-weekend and coordinates Residence Life contributions to University- wide programming during welcome week(s) Serves as a representative of the Office of Residence Life for campus presentations, such as Open Houses, Accepted Students Day, Orientation, etc. Maintains data as necessary for all areas of responsibility Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Master's degree in Higher Education or a related field required. A minimum of five years professional experience in Residence Life with experience in professional staff supervision and programming with excellent organizational and human relation skills required.
