Responsibilities and duties (include but not limited to)

  • Responsible for management Client's managed Database systems
  • Expected to troubleshoot database issues and work with applications teams on performance troubleshooting and optimization
  • Maintenance, administration, troubleshooting, installation, and configuration of database systems.
  • Implement database monitoring system
  • Assist with the certification, upgrading and patching of all database products
  • Automation of operational tasks and training of Operators to manage L1 and L2 alerts
  • Automated custom report generation for proprietary systems

Education, Skills and background (incl. Education and Experience Requirements)

  • 2-3 years of experience working on MSSQL databases
  • Experience with a wide range of relational, unstructured, and time-series database technologies. For example: Kdb+, MySQL, Elastic, InfluxDB, Innodb, Vertica, Postgres and MongoDB
  • Experience working with application teams to troubleshoot performance issues
  • Experience working with Linux,Windows, Terminal, PowerShell and Ansible
  • Scripting with Python and Bash
  • Clustering, Geoclustering, Encryption, and Replication
  • Ability to analyze and diagnose problems and effectively lead to system recovery
  • Clear verbal and written communicator
  • Creative self-motivated thinker with out of the box ideas who is keen to contribute ideas, share knowledge, and help others develop
  • Driven to develop own skills and knowledge
  • Used to work with ticketing systems such as JIRA or Service No

Has good knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) but is not a 1-trick pony who only knows that and nothing else.

  • Has strong Linux/Unix/Python/Bash skills in addition to Windows related skills which will come as being an MSSQL expert
  • Has knowledge of at least a few of the following additional types of database/big-data platforms:
    • Postgres
    • MySQL
    • MongoDB
    • Hadoop/Spark
    • Kafka
    • Oracle
  • Has DevOps mindset/skillset which includes a strong focus on coding/automation and not just administration .
  • Knows how to instrument, monitor, maintain, databases (e.g., with Nagios, or similar monitoring tools)
