Title: On-Call Catering Cook
Employment Type: Temporary
Status: Non-Exempt
Grade Level: Hourly
Pay Range: $18.00 per hour
Reports To: Executive Chef & Sous Chef
Schedule: The work schedule for this temporary position varies. Position requires flexible availability to work morning, evenings, holidays, and weekends. Hours are based on events schedule.

Job Function and Responsibilities: The Catering Cook is responsible for assisting the Executive chef and Sous Chef with but, not limited to, preparing recipes, execution of the events, organization of products in walk-in and getting Banquet Events Orders cooked in a timely fashion. A cook will need to follow WCS and NYDOH standards in regards to establishing and maintaining superior standards of operations in food quality, profitability, sanitation, and maintenance for internal and external events following.

Position Responsibilities and Specifications Include but are not limited to:
? Knowledge of knife cuts, protein temperatures, plating, presentation, and equipment usage.
? Maintaining refrigeration logs.
? Transfer of menu items to and from location
? Must be skilled in all cooking techniques, grilling, saut?ing, boiling, baking, braising, etc.
? Practice all health and sanitation procedures.
? Ensure all products are prepared, held and served at correct temperatures following NYCDOH standards.
? Ensure the proper rotation, labeling and dating of all products.
? Use the proper utensils, kitchen equipment, and portion control at all times.
? Keep work are clean, sanitized and organized.
? Keep management informed of food quantities and quality in prep, on the line and in holding cabinets.
? Coordinate with prep cooks and chefs on production to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
? Assist with set-up of all plate ware and food items as needed per event.
? May be assigned to work multiple stations throughout the shift or to prep for subsequent events.

? Implement and follow sanitary and safety practices for food handling, general cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen as required by NYDOH and WCS.
? Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as needed.

Qualification Requirements

Qualifications?
? At least 2 years of experience as a Catering Cook preferred.
? Able to follow instructions and recipes.
? Comfortable working in a production-style kitchen and work as part of a team.
? Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form with co-workers and supervisors.
? Ability to work under pressure.
? Ability to move items up to 50 pounds and to stand for extended periods of time.?
? Valid driver's license required. New York residents must possess a valid New York license. Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents.
? Flexible hours according to scheduling needs.
? Culinary degree preferred.
? Must have a Valid NYC Food Protection Certificate.?

*May be required to work at other WCS facilities as necessary, including Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo and New York Aquarium.?
