Overview

A key role within the AVL Powertrain Engineering company is the Director of Engineering. This position provides technical leadership across all engineering (skill) teams. In addition this position will be combined with being technical expert specificially in ADAS/AD. The Director of Engineering provides direct and indirect supervision, has a strong mentoring ability, provides support to customers, has a problem-solving mentality, and has the ability to conduct a very hands-on approach. The Director of Engineering must thrive in a dynamic environment where they are able to determine and make change. Strong communication skills are required as this position speaks to all parts of the organization (locally and globally), in addition to customers, vendors, etc. Qualified candidates will possess at least 10-15 years experience in an area as shown below in the qualifications section and within that experience the most recent experience should fall in ADAS/Autonomous or related.

Responsibilities

The Director of Engineering manages and develops the engineering and technical functions to support company objectives. This is a l eadership role that reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering.

  • Resource Planning and Management Provides leadership and direction on engineering Skill Team resource issues for PEI. Develop a coherent recruiting, staffing, and staff development strategy that supports the business plan and strategic direction. Creates an environment supportive of positive employee engagement. Champion the resident engineering business to create a sustainable business with positive employee engagement.
  • Engineering Management Responsible for the management of engineering operations, including capacity planning, utilization, resource assignment, and engineering metrics.
  • Skill Teams & direct management of the Controls team Responsible for the management and performance expectations of the Skill Team and technical leaders of PEI through the performance feedback, development, and organizational design of the Engineering Technical and Skill Teams. Direct management of the controls team.
  • Support Technical Quotations and Project Reviews Provide leadership and direction on quotations and project reviews to assure that utilization targets and project budget costs are met. Interact with Technical Director so that all engineering and technical resources in the company experience coordinated and seamless leadership. Continuously improve and reinforce the engineering aspects of the quality system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering required
  • 3-5+ years of recent experience in ADAS/Autonomous
  • 10-15+ years of experience below (any combination):
    • Electrification
    • Propulsion
    • Powertrain
    • Mobility
    • Controls/Software
    • ADAS/Autonomous
  • 5+ years of engineering team leadership
  • Experience in change management
  • Proven track record of driving change
  • Hands-on, active leader
  • Demonstrated mentoring abilities
  • International experience preferred
  • Two 30 day international assignments will need to be completed within the first two years of the role
