This position is responsible for providing strategic direction and operational oversight for Boston University’s comprehensive Equal Employment Opportunity activities to ensure an environment that is free of harassment and discrimination, and which supports equal access for all to employment opportunities and appropriate working conditions. The position will ensure the University’s compliance with Titles VI, VII and IX of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and all related state and federal laws and regulations (not including those specific only to students). This position will oversee and expand the University’s Affirmative Action efforts beyond the mandatory annual reporting and will supervise an expanded suite of educational opportunities and training for the university community on these and related matters. Supervisory responsibilities: This position will supervise an Equal Opportunity team that addresses issues of illegal discrimination, including the University’s compliance with Title IX, and which is responsible for the timely investigation and resolution of complaints from individual faculty, staff, and students about sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination. The Title IX Coordinator for the University reports to this position. This position also supervises staff who are assigned to Affirmative Action, with responsibilities that include compliance as well as the development and implementation of best practices across the University. This position supervises staff who assess disability needs and that works with units to develop and implement individual accommodations as well training with regard to faculty and staff disability services across the University. This position serves as a resource to all levels of the University regarding EO/AA matters and represents Boston University in the broader community in collaborating and communicating with other institutions and entities about these areas of expertise.
