What we’re looking forWe need an independent thinker who can creatively manage Calbright’s websites (including the public-facing website at and how those intersect with growth marketing campaigns (multi-channel, including search and social campaign). We’re looking for a mission-driven individual who proactively sees what needs to be done for our web assets and has an arsenal of tools in their experience to understand where they can roll up their sleeves and add value. Successful candidates must be able to think quickly and critically, and possess an understanding of how web dev fits within basic in-house marketing campaigns and learner acquisition functions.The workYou will be responsible for all new WordPress development including theme and individual template development, design, plugin updates, and website optimization. Your experience as a web developer means you collaborate well with others on our team, you have strong communication skills, you can self-manage on projects where you may be the only developer, and you can manage your own time efficiently. You will work on creative projects where you are expected to speak up when you see room for improvement, implement rich transitions and animations, and execute builds that match and improve upon source designs. You should enjoy teaching others and sharing knowledge with the rest of the team even though you will often work individually.To be successful in this position, you’ll need:Ability to customize and extend Wordpress through theme and plugin authoring/editing in PHP. Expertise with front-end development (Javascript, HTML, CSS) Experience optimizing websites for mobile, for SEO, and for tracking marketing campaigns.Ability to build and instrument campaign-specific landing pages Experience working with Wordpress analytics and SEO ecosystem tools like Yoast, Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel A willingness to be flexible, sensitive to the needs of fellow team members, with a willingness to work cross functionally supporting the full organization.The ability to manage a content calendar and deliver what’s expected on time.A collaborative, intellectually curious spirit that constantly seeks out opportunities to learn something new.A positive attitude, a friendly demeanor, a sense of humor, and an interest in working with othersThe ability to inculcate Calbright’s values to a diverse and geographically distributed group.Bonus points for having:Startup experienceSpecific, innovative contributions to public sector communication effortsAn understanding of the California Community College systemSpanish language fluencyPhotography and videography editing skillsAn eye for graphic design and love of brandingThe office environmentWorking remotely from anywhere within the state in California works for us. If you happen to live near our main office in Oakland (right next to BART) or our outposts in Sacramento and Los Angeles, you can work from one of these locations. In this case, you'll be working in a well-lit, air conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation. There might be some overnight travel by land or air (less than 20%).
