Job Description

The Advanced Materials Engineering (AME) group is responsible for development, design and implementation of new materials systems used in components and systems across the HVAC& Refrigeration sector of the UTC CCS division. This job specifically focuses on metallic materials, primarily steel, aluminum and copper.

Key Job Responsibilities:

The candidate will identify, evaluate and mature technology readiness of cost effective and robust materials (aluminum, steel, copper) technologies for CCS. She / he will be a key member of our core technology team who will work closely with our business units, manufacturing support and quality organizations.

Lead projects and qualify materials and processing requirements to insert the technology that will ultimately lead to cost reduction and / or performance improvements in our products.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • Strong technical, communication and organization skills and the ability to drive technology advancement and execution.
  • Experienced in applying design and manufacturing best practices in our components.
  • Practical experience with material properties (steel - stainless and low-alloy, iron, aluminum and copper) and variety of casting, metal-forming, machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience to estimate component costs based on material, design complexity and manufacturing process steps.
  • Experience with metallurgical test methods to support component and supplier qualification.
  • Experience with FEA modeling components either on the design side (static analysis) and/ or modeling manufacturing forming processes (non-linear analysis) to understand material robustness in the application a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Ability to work and prioritize multiple projects at the same time.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools such as PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Familiarity with HVAC&R equipment and systems or prior experience with an OEM a plus.
  • Education:

    MS in Metallurgical, Mechanical or Materials Engineering with a minimum 7 years experience or PhD with a minimum of 5 years experience.
