**Description:**
**BASIC FUNCTION:**
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Revenue Cycle Director performs a variety of professional level management and analytical functions to direct and coordinate the activities of the following Revenue Cycle departments- Patient Access, Health Information Management, Patient Accounts, Clinical Documentation Integrity, and Indian River Medical Associates (IRMA). Ensures that the maximization of third-party revenue collections and cash flow while maintaining the highest levels of patient, provider, employee and other customer relations.
**SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:** Oversees staff in identified departments in collaboration with department manager
**NATURE AND SCOPE** :
This position with communicate with staff, management, payers, IRMC and IRMA departments and regulatory agencies
**PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:**
Supports the mission, vision and values of the hospital.
Responsible for working in a safe and protective manner at all times keeping in mind that safety and environmental hazards are the responsibility of all employees for themselves, other staff members and patients.
Manages the revenue cycle functions to ensure that the Health System is being paid appropriately for all services provided in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
Develops policies and procedures and processes related to revenue cycle functions throughout the system. Responsible for the formulation, administration and coordination of Budget, Productivity and Benchmarking polices and practices
Ensures compliance with regulations, standards and directives from regulatory agencies and third party payers.
Coordinates, monitor and manages third party contracts and participates in third party payer negotiations. Maintains relationships with third party payers to resolve payment issues and address operational issues associated with each contract
Develops and monitors receivable management reports such as aging analysis, denial reports, payment exception reports and collections performance. Develops and implements action plans to accelerate cash flow and maximize reimbursement in accordance with contracts and regulations. Provides recommendations for management based on analysis and reports.
Promotes effective communications between staff and departments to ensure ongoing education/training and to expedite problem resolution
Provides leadership, supervision, coordination and efficiency of the Revenue Cycle departments through respective department managers
Produces and analyzes standard periodic reports to assist in the monitoring and forecasting process and to produce materially accurate recording of third party billings, doubtful accounts and third party cash receipts
Collaborates with departmental leadership to establish, maintain, monitor and modify work standards and relevant performance metrics for activities performed within the Revenue Cycle departments
Analyzes problematic situations utilizing quantitative and analytical techniques and deals effectively with various patient, legal and revenue cycle decisions
Directs, coordinates and collaborates in efforts to ensure Revenue Integrity for the corporate wide, including but not limited to Charge audits, Billing/Claim edits, Revenue Integrity related to Discharged not Final Billed, late charges, Contractual Variance Analysis, Charge Capture (reconciliation, accuracy and audits), Charge Description Master and denial management and prevention
Ensures that all systems balance statistically and financially including Parathon, McKesson Paragon, EPSI Budget, Product Line and Cost Accounting System, Visionware Productivity System, Truven Benchmarking and Kaufman Hall Enuff Financial and Capital Planning
Performs other duties as assigned
**CORE COMPETENCIES:**
Ability to exercise a high degree of analytical, problem solving and team building skills
Possess excellent knowledge of processes related to revenue cycle, including the integration of patient access, health information management, case management and utilization, coding/compliance/documentation, charge capture and patient financial services
Proficiency in MS Office products
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of managed care and related tools for payer performance
Demonstrated track record of delivering revenue cycle improvement
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:**
Bachelors degree in Finance, Financial Management, Finance Administration, Nursing, Health Care Administration or Information System Management is required. Masters degree preferred
Five to ten years of experience in health care management, related filed or equivalent experience in hospital revenue cycle operations is required.
Thorough knowledge of Managed Care and related tools for assessing payer performance
Financial management skills, including the ability to financially analyze data for operations, budgeting, auditing, forecasting,
Knowledge of accounting, A/R market analysis, staffing and financial reporting skills
