Development Guild DDI is a leading consulting firm working exclusively with non-profits and mission-driven organizations. Our clients have included the Nature Conservancy, the Gates Foundation, Johns Hopkins University, Mount Sinai, the World Wide Web Foundation, the Scratch Foundation, Partners in Health and many more.

We are seeking a VP of Engineering to join our team. We are about to ship our new product which uses collective intelligence and cutting-edge AI. Our clients will use our product to harness the wisdom of their constituents and produce solutions for some of the greatest, most intractable problems they currently face. If you d like to work on something truly meaningful, then this could be a dream job for you. Our current engineering team is small, and we need someone who can manage it as it continues to grow. As the leader, you ll still be in the trenches with most of your time spent with hands-on engineering, while still managing the growth and success of the team. 70% of your time will be spent building cool new things, and 30% of your time will be spent supporting clients.

This is a full-time position based in Development Guild DDI s New York (Manhattan) office.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience building and managing domestic and remote teams, including code reviews, backlog grooming, coaching, etc.
  • Experience architecting shipped products
  • Experience and love for the rapid-innovation pace of a startup
  • Significant experience with a modern front-end stack
  • Significant experience with complex data scenarios
  • Significant experience working tightly with a product team
  • Our current stack is Node, Postgres, and React hosted on AWS your experience does not have to be a perfect match, but should complement it

Nice-to-have Qualifications

  • Experience with mid-size and larger engineering teams
  • Experience with graph databases
  • Experience building for the mobile web
  • Experience with TDD
  • Experience designing APIs
  • Volunteer or other mission-driven experience
  • 10+ years relevant experience
