Questions: Nicole McCarty, 800-###-####.Licensed professional civil/structural engineer wanted (part-time and full-time), to prepare seismic risk assessments of existing buildings (Commonly known as PML reports). Job duties include property inspections, identifying structural building components (especially lateral force resisting systems), evaluating seismic risk of buildings using standard risk industry methodologies, and preparing written seismic risk assessment reports.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other job-related duties may be assigned in conformance with state and federal regulations.Conduct visual examinations of building structures to identify structural components and seismic performance characteristics of the subject properties. Provide photographic documentation of field conditions including building components, structural features and property settings.Conduct interviews with the owner (or their on-site representative), tenants, service providers, local government agencies, and other individuals knowledgeable about the subject property.Review available property related documents including construction drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, structural calculations, seismic retrofit plans, and prior engineering reports.Review available seismic data base resources to identify property related seismic risks including fault hazards, ground shaking hazards, liquefaction hazards, site stability and historical earthquake activity.Prepare seismic risk assessment analyses (Commonly known as a PML evaluation) of buildings using standard risk industry methodologies.Prepare seismic risk assessment reports in accordance with client prescribed scope of work or ASTM standards.Climb ladders (including vertical ladders up multiple stories) and/or steep roof stairs (for each building assessed, at least once per on-site assessment).Ability to travel, on average, approximately 50% to 75% of time to client sites across the U.S. via plane and/or driving. Common patterns of travel include two days on-site followed by three days at home per week; or one week on-site followed by one week at home. The time at home is spent writing reports that communicate the field findings. Overnight stays away from home may be required.Due to the possession of special skills or experience, may be assigned to perform various types of services such as, but not limited to: facility condition assessments, structural, mechanical, civil, or environmental surveys; pre-construction document reviews; construction monitoring; desk reviews; report reviews; or document review. This position may also be assigned to provide training programs.Enhances professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.Complies with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying new and existing legislation; anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on necessary action.Protects operations by keeping company information confidential.Delivers outstanding customer service through timely response and proactive solutions to clients needs.Demonstrates BV's guiding principles in support of the company's strategic goals.Follows all documented policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and Work Instructions applicable to the position and support of BV's quality standards.Maintains safe and clean work area by complying with all procedures, rules, and regulations.Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.Ability to work from remote location.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This job has no supervisory responsibilities.QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education and/or ExperienceBachelor's degree (BS) from four-year college or university in a related field or equivalent relative experience; At least 5 years of structural engineering and seismic design experience, and a general knowledge of overall building components and construction methods. Prior experience in preparing actual PML reports is preferred, however, on-the-job training is also provided.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Licensed Civil or Structural professional engineer preferred; valid driver's license; personal credit sufficient to charge business travel expenses of up to $3,000 required.Other QualificationsMust have a clean driving recordMust be able to work from a remote locationMust have a cell phone and supply your own internet service.Must be willing to fly and live near (or be willing to relocate to) a major metropolitan area with reasonable access to a major airport.Occasional weekend travel required.Ability to travel, on average, approximately 50% to 75% of time to client sites across the U.S. via plane and/or driving.
