Senior Manager, Site & Network Communication US (216048)

As Senior Manager, (Site & Network Communication US) you will be responsible for the communications activities that impact all employees at local site level and the reputation of our business in the community.

This role partners with the Global Communications Team and the key local stakeholders belonging to different functions (Industrial Operations, Quality, R&D, Support Functions) as well as with external stakeholders, to drive the comprehension of the company mission and ensure alignment to the business priorities. Through the definition of a local communications strategy and the optimal planning and rollout of a calendar of activities, the Head of Site Communications ensures high employee engagement and a sense of belonging to the GSK culture. The Head of Site Communications protects and enhances GSK reputation with external stakeholders at local, regional and country level - in alignment with the Global Comms team and the LOC.

This role reports to the Head of Global Internal Communications Vaccines. As the first point of contact for communications at site level, this person is a member of the local leadership team and the local crisis committee. The management and the development of the local communications team is in the responsibilities of this role as well.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Create a clear site communications strategy to be implemented through a calendar of activities aligned to the Global planning.
  • Drive the GSK strategy and culture across the site and ensure the local LT members are well equipped and capable of supporting.
  • Be the first point of contact for internal and external communication at site level and a member of the site leadership team
  • Protect and strengthen GSK reputation internally and externally, in coordination with the Global Communications Team, the LOC and other US sites.
  • Council the local leadership team and support the improvement of their communications skills, strengthen employees engagement and stimulate a 2-way dialogue within the organization
  • Listen to the organization through regularly checking the temperature of the organization. Analyse and provide feedback to the local leadership team and the Global Internal Communications Team and define appropriate actions where needed.
  • Manage the local communication channels in coherence with the global intranet strategy and set up the appropriate systems to manage other site-based channels and create the right channel mix to deliver up-to-date and relevant information to the local audience.
  • Manage the local communications partners / stakeholders and ensure strong collaboration and coordination.
  • Bring new and innovative ways of communicating and engaging with employees and stimulate an atmosphere that encourages this behavior.
  • Ensure that institutional activities/materials for internal and external use are aligned and consistent with GSK branding.
  • Provide strong support to the Global Internal Communications Team in the delivery of global campaigns / events at site level, ensuring that all communications are tailored according to the needs of the local audience.
  • Crisis management. This includes the participation to the site crisis committee and the proactive development of crisis plans in cooperation with other functions, appropriate media training for leaders to be able to respond to media inquiries in case of emergency and the reactive/proactive creation of position statements.
  • Manage external suppliers, where appropriate, to ensure delivery of agreed objectives on time and on budget, as required.

  • Degree level with experience in communications.
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior communication position.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and local language.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, capable of developing productive relationships with local and global colleagues.
  • Ability to develop appropriate communications plans and tactics to address sensitive issues and understand complex social environment (e.g. redeployment, social partnership)
  • Robust experience in change, crisis management and media relations.
  • Proven track record of project/event management, planning and execution in a large, complex organisation with ability to manage external suppliers
  • Experience in planning, designing and executing activities that enable leadership team members to communicate effectively and sustain employee motivation
  • Strong experience in channel management and development, including live events and virtual channels
  • Leadership skills and ability to coordinate with people in different parts of the business
  • Resilient, proactive, flexible and self-motivated with sound judgment and good decision-making skills, able to remain focused in a matrix organisation, stay calm under pressure and prioritize work.
  • High personal accountability, credibility and integrity, combined with the ability to influence decision-making at a senior level - up to leadership team level.
  • Good knowledge of the Vaccines industry and its key players.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive post-graduate experience in a communications environment
  • Strong communicator with excellent written and verbal skills

  • Experience in using Microsoft SharePoint
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and be able to deal with ambiguity and handle sensitive situations
  • Ability to assimilate new, complex business or technical information quickly and explain in non-technical terms to lay audiences
