Performs functions to procure parts and supplies based upon Materials Resource Planning and corporate needs. Looks for suppliers where savings can be maximized without jeopardizing quality. Serves as the conduit between the company and suppliers.
Under general direction:
♦ Serves as a proactive liaison with other departments to assist with all phases of material planning, pricing, and delivery. Works with Planning and other shop functions to ensure material is available to production departments as required.
♦ Reviews MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) and places orders as required.
♦ Researches new suppliers based on quality, delivery, and price. Negotiates and administers purchasing contracts. Contacts suppliers to resolve problems or research opportunities.
♦ Works with Engineering during the product design phase to maximize the profitability of an order utilizing best purchasing practices.
♦ Responsible for cost containment and improvement for the commodities under her/his control.
♦ Participates in continuous improvement teams across functions in the company.
Reports to: Materials Manager
Uses Microsoft Office (incl. Excel,Word, Access), ManFact (ERP).
♦ High school diploma or equivalency required; 4-year degree in related field preferred.
♦ Minimum 3 years of experience in procurement required.
♦ Experience in crane or heavy equipment manufacturing industry a plus.
♦ Ability to read and interpret blueprints required.
♦ Candidate must have the ability to work in a team environment; must be a good communicator, both verbal and written; ability to conduct interpersonal speaking and writing across all functions in the organization.
♦ Ability to maintain an organized approach to procurement in order to stay on top of ever-changing requirements.
♦ Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Performs other duties as assigned. Participates in Continuous Improvement and 6S. Follows safety rules and keeps the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
