Team Overview:

The Director, Investor Relations will operate within the Masterworks sales organization and have coverage responsibility for 500+ investors who have already invested in an artwork-specific offering (i.e., one painting), but are interested in allocating an additional $100,000+ per year to art.

Market Overview:

Blue-chip (defined as the top 100 artists in terms of sales volume) has outperformed the S&P 500 by 250% since 2000. Even more impressive, its store of value characteristics only caused it to decline 26% in the 2008-09 financial crisis versus the S&P which declined 58%. We believe the risk-adjusted returns of this asset class and are building a platform to make it available to everyone.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Director, Investor Relations with experience in selling alternative assets to UHNW and HNW investors. The successful candidate will be responsible for educating investors interested in allocating more than $100k in artwork on the Masterworks platform, future offerings, market research, and more.

  • Maintain contact with 500+ HNW+ individual investors on an ongoing basis, by sending them first look access to new offerings, third-party research, and other content.
  • Build bespoke portfolios of artists for individual investors based specific investment objectives (e.g., blue-chip or conservative returns).
  • Consistent travel (33%+) to meet with our large investors and hold dinners or small events to educate them on the art market and future offerings.
  • Delivering research to investors on the asset class from our research team or third-party research teams.
  • Provide senior team with large investor feedback to the regarding investment product development

Measurements of Success:

  • Upsell x% of existing investors into new offerings for y% of each offering.
  • Create x portfolios each week for y% of investors over time.

Requirements or Skill Sets:

  • Note: Due to regulatory requirements, this position requires the successful candidate to hold and maintain a Series 7 license from FINRA.

  • 3+ years of experience selling equities, alternative assets, or other financial products to HNW and UHNW investors.
  • Highly analytical, with good understanding of portfolio construction and alternative assets.
  • CAIA or CFP a plus.
  • Interest in the art industry a plus.
  • Hard-driving achiever, with a balance between sales process and results-orientation.
  • Confident client presentation skills (in person and phone)
  • Self-starter attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be in the NYC area.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US - no exceptions.
