DPS has been approved to receive grant funds for two years to fund an Integrated Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) program for DPS employees. This program is hiring behavioral health professionals to address the mental health needs of employees who suffer work-related primary and secondary victimization, trauma or stress arising out of critical incidents in addition to their ongoing dangerous and violent work environment in law enforcement and correctional settings. This program will be composed of licensed mental health providers and case managers whom will be deployed across the State. This program will be integrated with the current Employee Assistance Program as well as other internal DPS peer-to-peer outreach programs.

The IBHS licensed clinicians will provide direct counseling services and care coordination at an advanced level. These positions will provide behavioral health screening, consultation and crisis intervention on a regular basis via telephone and face to face meetings. Selected candidates in this position will conduct biopsychosocial assessments with employees and their family members; develop and implement treatment plans; prepare clinical summaries based on findings; and facilitate referrals to both internal and external support resources as appropriate. Individual, couple and family therapy, program briefings, community outreach, training, crisis intervention and participation with traumatic event response teams will be conducted by IBHS clinical staff.

DPS leadership and supervisory staff may confer with the IBHS licensed clinicians regarding clinical or behavioral problems presented by employees to obtain recommendations concerning resolution of problems with individuals or as means for addressing problematic patterns and trends within the specific setting.
