This position is located on the OMES II contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. This position will support the Restore-L program in the Satellite Servicing Projects Division (SSPD). Relocation assistance is available for this position. EOE/Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran JOB DESCRIPTION: The engineer will provide algorithm and control engineering support for the Restore-L Robot Subsystem. The Restore-L Robot Subsystem is responsible for developing the robotic technology for the Restore-L servicing vehicle and operating the two robotic arms during the Landsat-7 servicing operations. Job duties include: • Design and document robot algorithms for autonomous and tele-operated on-orbit robotic servicing tasks • Analyze and write reports for robot algorithm stability and performance at component and system levels • Work with robot software experts to implement robot algorithms on consumer and flight processors • Develop test campaigns to evaluate robot algorithms on commercial and flight robot hardware systems • Develop test campaigns to validate dynamics models used in simulation to analyze robot algorithm performance • Work with robot systems engineers to create functional and performance requirements for robot algorithms • Create and deliver technical presentations to support design reviews Qualifications REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineer, Robotics or related field and 9 years experience • Excellent knowledge of two or more categories of standard robot algorithms including compliance control, forward and inverse kinematics, visual servo control, collision detection, trajectory planning, computer vision, and filtering • Hands-on experience with robot algorithm design, development, and implementation on robot hardware systems • Mid-level programming knowledge of object-oriented programming in C++ • Excellent written and oral communication skills and teamwork skills DESIRED EXPERIENCE: • Experience with practical application of linear control theory • Excellent knowledge of performance analysis for robot systems • Use of MATLAB, OCTAVE, or similar for robot algorithm design and analysis • Use of MAPLE or similar for robot algorithm design and analysis • Experience with developing test campaigns for hardware robot systems • Experience with use of metrology systems to analyze hardware robot system performance • Experience with serial and parallel robotic manipulators • Experience with software development for real-time systems • Experience with standard best practice software development lifecycle tools (git, svn, bug tracking, unit testing) • Experience with Open Robot Control Software (Orocos) • Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS) • Experience with space flight robotic systems • Experience with NASA mission lifecycle and review cycle (design reviews, requirements reviews, integration reviews, trade studies, etc.) ID: 2019-2056 Level: Mid-Level (Non-Manager) Visa: Citizen only External Company Name: Sierra Lobo, Inc.
