We are seeking a Sr. Claim Specialist to support our Sompo International Inland Marine business unit based in the US. This position reports to the claim manager for Marine Claim. This position will be located in our New York City office. ?
Duties and Responsibilities
Direct handling of Transportation and Logistics claims across our operating units across the United States within departmental Best Practices.
Directing independent adjusters and other claim vendors in the successful evaluation and resolution of Inland Marine Transportation and Logistics claims that are typically issue oriented and complex in accordance with departmental Best Practices.
Evaluate exposures and make substantive claim decisions for Inland Marine Transportation and Logistics claims.
Maintain appropriate file documentation, file notes, claim loss data and financial information in our electronic system of record within departmental Best Practices. ?
Selection and management of the proper experts in accordance with departmental protocols to develop and execute on a strategy to resolve assigned claims.
Keep the underwriting and global claims team current on loss trends and market intelligence. Additionally, you will be expected to provide relevant loss information on claims responsible for driving loss development on your assigned accounts.
Ensure timely and accurate reporting of exposure to underwriting and management.
Ensure appropriate narrative and arithmetic reports are timely prepared and disseminated.
As part of the Global Sompo Claims Team you will be expected to contribute to the success of the team by working closely with your colleagues worldwide on various projects as directed by the EVP, Global Insurance Claims and other members of Executive Team. This may include attending various industry conferences, possibly as a speaker/presenter, publishing on current claim trends and issues and assisting other offices on complex claims.
Other duties as required by management.
Some travel as required.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor?s Degree Required.
JD Preferred but not required.
Minimum 7 plus years? experience required in Inland Marine Transportation and Logistics claims handling or with a direct provider of 3PL or 4PL logistics services, with a career history of increasing responsibility.
Strong preference for candidate who has pursued or is in the process of pursuing an insurance related designation (e.g. RPLU, CPCU IIA, AMIM).
Direct handling of a wide variety of Transportation and Logistics claims with an emphasis on evaluating, handling, negotiating and settling litigated and non-litigated matters with typical exposures in from $0 to $1,000,000 USD.
Demonstrated ability to establish close working relationship with other departments including underwriting & actuarial.
Strong negotiating, analytical, written and organizational skills.
Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and various in-house claims systems ?Guidewire, Genius, ImageRight is a plus).
Multiple state adjuster licenses a plus.
Comfortable working in a team setting or independently
