Job no: 053030 Department: Financial Services-Patient Employer: State of New York Payroll Title: TH Staff Assistant 2, NSSL1 Bargaining Unit: UUP (State University Professional Services Unit) Salary: Commensurate with Qualifications Work type: Full-time Location: Syracuse Categories: Management, Professional and Information Technology, Administrative, Secretarial & Clerical Job Summary: The Senior Patient Accounting Supervisor reports to the Billing Manager and will be responsible for the direct supervision of Calculations Clerk 2, SG09 in the Billing Unit. This includes monitoring and evaluating staff productivity and effectiveness of the Billing process for all patient accounts. This position will assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures related to Billing process. Will also identify payor edits needed to ensure that a higher percentage of clean claims are submitted to each payor. The individual will be responsible to recommend to the Billing Manager possible resolutions that should be considered in future contracts with payors. Responsible for the supervision and performance of the Billing area. Monitor staff performance, behavior and attendance. Interview and discipline staff when necessary. Responsible to monitor monthly Billing reports ensuring accounts are appropriately handled by staff and necessary action is taken. Responsible to monitor unbilled accounts in SSI on a weekly basis to insure that claims are getting processed in a timely manner. Responsible to review staff adjustments over $500.00 to ensure adjustments are applied appropriately based on payer contractual agreements. Interpret regulatory and payer bulletins and communicate to staff to ensure compliance with all billing guidelines. Identify additional data elements that need to be implemented for a high clean claims processing rate. Audits billing under EPIC Enterprise Billing System to ensure accuracy of all information. Monitor staff WQs in EPIC to ensure claims are being worked in a timely manner and assist with difficult claim/DNB edits. Perform other duties as requested. The incumbent interacts on a continuous basis with a variety of internal customer which include, but not limited to, the following departments: Financial Services, potentially all ancillary or clinical departments and ambulatory care sites, IMT, and the Attorney General. Interacts with external customers on a continuous basis which includes, but not limited to, Medicare, Medicaid, Work Com/ No Fault and any other Commercial payor. Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare or related field and two years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills required. Strong working knowledge of billing, collection policies and contractual terms required. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel and have strong PC skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a supervisory/administrative role. Working knowledge of EPIC software preferred.
