The Director of Admissions and Student Engagement at Syracuse Abroad develops and directs strategies that optimize enrollment and yield goals for the study abroad program. They strategically coordinate activities focusing on admissions and engagement with students on campus, including study abroad advising, the pre-departure experience, and supporting campus recruiting initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for collaboratively developing yield/retention strategies to initiate, sustain and fulfill student interest in study abroad, beginning with student inquiries, continuing throughout the application cycle, and including support for re-entry programming initiatives.The Director is also responsible for ensuring high quality student services and support throughout the admissions and pre-departure process, including supporting staff in communicating with students and their families during time abroad.In line with best practices in the field of student services and education abroad, this role collaborates with the Director of Global Safety, overseas program staff, and other campus units to strengthen policies and protocols related to student health, safety and wellness, to better prepare and support students abroad.This position reports to the Assistant Provost/Executive Director of Syracuse Abroad, and is supported by three mid-level management positions in the areas of admissions, student services, and campus engagement/recruitment. The Director of Student Engagement is an integral member of the executive leadership team, in a highly collaborative organizational structure.QualificationsMasters degree in Higher Education, International Education or related field preferred.Minimum 8 years of experience in education abroad or international higher education, or equivalent combined experience (e.g., admissions, student services, risk management) preferred.Job Specific QualificationsAbility to effectively engage with and support diverse audiences of students, faculty and administrators.Experience with admissions and student service provision.Experience studying, working or traveling internationally.Demonstrated experience supervising and managing staff, with proven ability to foster teamwork and generate a positive atmosphere.Expected to represent Syracuse Abroad on campus, domestically and internationally. Ability to travel domestically and abroad.Knowledge of student health/safety abroad an asset.Strong leadership skills.Ability to manage multiple projects with varying timelines.Excellent time management and organizational skills.Superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.ResponsibilitiesOversee Syracuse Abroad Center admissions unit: develops annual strategic plan for the Admissions team; collaborates with the Assistant Provost and Executive Director and the Director of Strategic Partnerships of Syracuse Abroad to set annual and long-term targets for admissions, enrollment and retention. Provide oversight for existing admissions and enrollment processes to support efficient and client-friendly provision of services consistent with Syracuse student experience and the changing standards of the international education field. Responsible for ongoing business optimization and communications regarding OrangeAbroad (Terra Dotta) users.Create pipelines of current students that lead to inquiries, engagements, admits, and enrolled students all while improving the overall engagement in the Study Abroad program. Foster close working relationships with the SU Abroad staff, students, alumni, Syracuse offices and operations and professional organizations/networks as appropriate. Work collaboratively to achieve and enhance recruitment goals through these connections. Develop and maintain strong ties to schools and colleges to broaden visibility of Syracuse AbroadIn partnership with the Syracuse Abroad Institutional Relations/Recruitment team and Marketing/Communications, responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of Syracuse Abroad recruitment and engagement strategies with the purpose of promoting study abroad engagements, Syracuse Abroad visibility, enhancing inquiry and applicant pools, increasing diversity, and meeting enrollment goals for the division.Provide oversight of the health and student services/support for Syracuse Abroad programming in cooperation with other campus units (e.g., the Offices of Global Safety, Disability Services, Counseling Services, Equal Opportunity, Inclusion and Resolution, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Student Assistance, Multicultural Affairs, Student Success, the HEOP Program, the LGBTQ Resource Center, etc.). Oversee and coordinate health and non-academic student support policies, procedures, and services for Syracuse Abroad Centers: update Syracuse Abroad health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with University-wide policies and relevant federal and local regulations, and ensures adherence to these policies.Actively engage with and stay on top of latest research and trends in the relevant fields of international education.Serve on the Syracuse Abroad Executive Committee as a member of the senior leadership team.
